क्या है भोजपत्र?

भोजपत्र का संबंध किसी पत्ते से नहीं, बल्कि भोज नमक 15-20 मीटर ऊंचे वृक्ष की छाल से है, जो सर्दियों में पतली परतों के रूप में निकलती हैं। यह गहरे रंग की होती है और लंबे समय तक खराब नहीं होतीं। इसमें रेजिनयुक्त तेल पाए जाने के कारण काफी मजबूत होती है तथा इसपर स्याही से कुछ भी लिखा या रेखांकन बनाया जा सकता है। इसकी प्राप्ति हिमालय की घाटियों में होती है। उत्तराखंड के भोजवासा में इस तरह के वृक्ष 5.5 हेक्टेयर के दायरे में फैले हैं और इसे संरक्षण दिया गया है। इसका उपयोग यदि दवाइयों के बनाने में किया जाता है, तो इसके साथ टोने, टोटके और पूजा-पाठ में भी काम आने वाली विशिष्ट वस्तु के रूप में महत्ता बनी हुई है।  एक मान्यता के अनुसार भोजपत्र की टहनियों की धूप से भूत-प्रेत, जिन्न आदि भाग जाते हैं। इसके लिए पीडि़त व्यक्ति को ढीले-ढाले वस्त्रों में बिठाकर मंत्रोच्चारण के साथ उसके सामने भोजपत्र का धूप इस तरह से जलाया जाता है ताकि उसका धुआं पूरे शरीर को प्रभावित करे। इसके अतिरिक्त धार्मिक आस्था के अनुसार भोजपत्र पर देवी लक्ष्मी, भैरवी, काली, कामाख्या, मोहिनी आदि के वशीकरण या सम्मोहन के मंत्र लिखकर सिद्ध करने व उसे धारण करने से वांछित फल की प्राप्ति होती है।
