Benefits of fasting

Fasting is considered a means of religion.  All the religions of the world have adopted fasting and fasting in one form or the other.  The observance of the fast leads to the destruction of sins, the emergence of virtue, the purification of body and mind, the attainment of desired desires, and the attainment of peace and supreme effort.

 meaning of fasting

Fasting means to hold, that is, to take a resolution.  Vrat consists of restraint, determination and rule.  A person needs determination and rules to achieve any success in his life.  Self-restraint is awakened by determination.  The stronger the resolve, the more a person can develop the energy to lead a restrained life.  The soul gets purified by fasting.  Fasting also plays an important role in the direction of mental peace.  By staying fast in the fast, the body stops getting fat and the already existing fat starts getting used up.  In this process, the dead cells that have gathered in the body are gradually destroyed and come out of the body.  In this way, fasting is beneficial from the point of view of health.  It is necessary to include physical fast, verbal fast and mental fast in your fasting practice.  In the corporeal fast, we renounce the feeling of physical violence or tyranny - do not harass others.  Do not speak unpleasant words to anyone in the vow of speech, do not criticize anyone - try to be truthful.  Under the mental fast, we should try towards the purification of our mind.  Let go of lust, anger, greed, madness, jealousy, attachment and aversion in the mind.  Try to adopt the wish for the good of all as a permanent thought.  Follow these resolutions with a pure heart and pure conduct.  Vrats are meant to make a person's life holy.  In this, by purifying the mind by the mode of fasting, celibacy, solitude, silence, introspection, etc.  It is a law to take that resolution in front of your Ishta-Dev and then an attempt is made to mold your conduct according to that resolution.  Special care is taken of three things in the fast.  Follow the first-restraint rule.  Second God worship and third goal awareness.

 difference between fasting and fasting

Rishis and Acharyas have considered austerity, restraint and rules to be synonymous with fasting.  In fact both fasting and fasting are one and the same.  In Sanskrit, 'Upa' means near and 'Vas' means to sit, that is, to meditate on God, to chant-praise Him.  There is another difference between them that food is eaten in fasting and fasting has to be done in fasting.  Vrat, fasting is the life of Hindu culture and religion, a lot has been said on fasts in Vedas, Dharmashastras, Puranas and Vedangas.  Many articles and essays have been written on Vratraj, Vratarka, Vratkaustubh, Jai Singh Kalpadrum, Muktak Sangrah, Hemadrivrtkhand etc.

If you are fasting, then follow these rules...

Nowadays the meaning of fasting is considered to be a lot of fruitful eating and decoration, rest, whereas the rules of fasting have been told in the scriptures.

 1. Forgiveness, truth, mercy, charity, defecation, control of the senses, worship of God, Agnihotra, contentment and not stealing – these 10 rules are considered essential in all the fasts.

 2. By drinking water many times, by eating betel leaves, by sleeping during the day, by having sex, fasting is corrupted.

 3. The person observing the fast should give up bronze utensils, honey and foreign food and the fasting should not use expensive clothes, ornaments, fragrant things, perfumes etc. But staying clean is not said to be a taboo.

Fasting is not done just by being on a hungry stomach, it is also necessary to follow these rules, know the true meaning of fasting

There are many fasts and festivals in Hinduism.  Usually people take fasting to be hungry, but they do not understand the real meaning of fasting.  let's tell you

In Hinduism, there is a practice of keeping all the important fasts almost every month.  The different importance of these fasts has also been told in the scriptures.  In order to get the virtue of fasting, people keep fasting, fruit fast, waterless and silent fast etc. according to their ability.  But just being hungry and thirsty or being silent does not fulfill the purpose of fasting, nor can you become a partaker of that virtue, which has been told in the scriptures.  In reality, fasting is a process of purifying the mind, thought and feeling.  In this, it is taught to control your senses.  If you learn this then the purpose of your fast will be successful.  Know from astrologer Dr. Arvind Mishra what is the true meaning and rules of fasting

 abstain from immoral acts

Vrat actually teaches one to control the senses and live life in a sattvik manner.  It purifies the mind and thoughts.  Therefore, through the fasting that falls from time to time, the person is made to practice that he should not do any kind of immoral work on this day.  That is, they should not say wrong words to anyone, do not do evil or slander to anyone, do not insult anyone, do not harass any innocent person and respect the elderly.  All these rules have also been included in the rules of fasting.  If you keep a fast by following these rules, then it purifies your soul.  In this way, by practicing the fast from time to time, these habits become a part of your behavior and your influential personality is formed which takes you on the path of salvation.

 eat sattvic food

A day before the fast, on the day of the fast and while breaking the fast, a person is asked to eat sattvik food.  In this, onion, garlic, red chili and oil spices etc. are not eaten.  The reason for this is that these things come in tamasic food.  Tamasic food distracts your mind, creates lethargy.  It also does not let you do your work properly.  Therefore, this thing should be kept in mind in any kind of fast.  In this way you practice to control your bad habit and learn to eat sattvik food by reducing attachment towards tamasic food.  It is said about food, as food is like mind, that is, as you eat, so will you become.

observance of celibacy and restraint on corrupt thoughts

Whatever fast you keep, you are asked to observe celibacy during the fast.  In this way you learn to control your senses.  This rule should not be ignored during the fast.  Apart from this, if you keep a fast of silence, then your fast is not successful just by staying calm, your mind should be calm.  There should not be any corrupt thoughts in it, then your fast is successful.  In order to curb corrupt thoughts, it has been asked to take as many names of God as possible during the fast.

 importance of charity

During the fast in the scriptures, you have been asked to do charity to the needy.  By doing charity, the mind of a person becomes pure.  The feeling of I is removed from within him and the idea that everything belongs to that God grows.  By doing charity, a person feels the pain of others, helping them and giving them a feeling of sacrifice.  Therefore, in the scriptures, charity has been considered of special importance.  One should definitely donate to the needy on the day of any fast.  While practicing like this, donating will become a part of your habit.
